Invited by Charleroi danse, Olga de Soto gives shape to INCORPORER KIDs, by revisiting the playful piece INCORPORER, inspired by the observation of child’s psychomotor development and various gripping and manipulative actions in his/her discovery of the object and the world. INCORPORER’s starting point was the child's prism in front of the gesture and his/her object’s exploration, while in this (re)creation intended for a young audience, Olga questions young spectators’ views on the performance itself, in a form aimed to a wider audience from the age of 5.
Following a score built on a series of playful actions, the dancer journeys from formed to deformed, from liquid to gas, from the elastic matter of a balloon to the unforgiving matter of the floor, from suspension to precipitation, from the aerial curve of a sphere to the rigid edge of the glass cube, from inner sound to outer sound, from bare stage’s immensity to the smallness of the breath that carries the dancer during his explorations.
The sound work plays on the distance the way a bellows does with air. At times it brings us close to or right up against the performer, so we can hear subterranean, buried sounds while, at other moments, we are left at a distance. Through the dance that emerges with each new experience, the dancer weaves a dialogue with ordinary and simple objects, giving them a different new (further) use. He discovers the possibilities of his body and the resistance of the materials, while gradually making the inaudible audible. Through this hand-to-hand relation with the environment, the direct relationship of a dancer to the real world is woven. It unfolds, between exchanges of fluids essential to life, application of the laws of physics and transfers of energy. INCORPORER KIDs is also a work that strives to reveal, through the actions that cross the dancer's path, a journey full of suspense, fun and poetic, guiding the dancer to act with complete freedom.
INCORPORER KIDs might be followed by a talk with the audience, where the performers will be pleased to answer the children's questions generated by the work. They might talk about the mystery contained in some actions, the words' role in the dance and the practical explanation of specific laws of physics used in the movement and the elements of the piece.
